Surgery for Law, Morris may replace him

The knee problem of Acie Law proved to be more serious than initial examinations revealed. The American point guard is expected to have surgery and miss the rest of the season. That’s also expected to be the end of the road of him with Olympiacos. His contract has a termination clause this summer and this clause is expected to be used.

UPDATE: There is an important detail left. The medical stuff of Olympiacos is in constant contact with Law’s doctor of choice in the States. They are still waiting his answer about the best possible treatment. The best case scenario is just a two months absence. The worst case, which is the most possible, means the end of his season and the termination of contract will be negotiated between the two sides.

Law was a key player in the team that won back to back Euroleague titles, but his injury will not let him defend his crown for a third time. He was the best alternative to Spanoulis, running the offense, a crucial force in every big game, he played injured during the 2012 final against CSKA Moscow and he kept alive Olympiacos in the first half of the 2013 final against Real Madrid.

That means the defending Euroleague champions will add one more player to their roster, despite already having signed Mardy Collins. According to Serbian journalist Djordje Matic, this player can be 23 years old Darius Morris, curently a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. Morris signed on the 6th of January a ten days contract with the NBA team and if the team decides to cut him, there seems to be already a deal in place with Olympiacos. Still there is no official confirmation yet by the Greek team, which on the contrary denies any contact with the player.

If the transaction is completed, Morris, the 41st pick of the 2011 NBA draft will have the chance to play in Euroleague after the 8th week of Top16 according to the competition transaction’s bylaws.
