Dirk Nowitzki historic season continues. On Friday night – or if you prefer in early Saturday morning in European timezone – after 27 points in the 107-95 win of the Mavericks over the Lakers he has a career total of 26.678 points and he became the 11th all time scorer in the NBA over former Euroleague champion with Panathinaikos, Dominique Wilkins (26.668).
As he said: “It’s been surreal. It’s been a crazy ride for 16 years, and I’m going to keep competing for a couple more years. Hopefully compete in the playoffs — that’s what we like, what we’re all about with the Mavericks. That’s really all I’m worried about now is making the playoffs. All the records are great once my career is over.”
Wilkins is the sixth player bumped down a spot on the all-time scoring list by Nowitzki this season. Nowitzki also passed Jerry West, Kevin Garnett, Reggie Miller, Alex English and John Havlicek. The great German, once called “wonderkid”, can become a top ten all time scorer by passing Oscar Robertson (26,710 points) in the upcoming games of his team.
So the question about him being the greatest European player of all time is once again relevant and we will be ready to answer it at “Eurohoops” next week.
