The Greek powerhouses fought last summer to sign Loukas Mavrokefalidis. A Greek top-class player was ready to come back home and Panathinaikos signed him and “celebrated” the win over Olympiacos. Although, the first five months of the season he was almost out of team while he played only garbage time. Pedoulakis didn’t trust him at all and used him only in three Euroleague games more than 10 minutes. The biggest problem of Mavrokefalidis is that he’s a tweener (plays the same time as power forward and center). The ex coach of Panathinaikos couldn’t match him with Lasme and Gist, so Mavrokefalidis used to play alongside with Fotsis.
Although everything changed when Alvertis undertook the team. Mavrokefalidis stepped up and had in the last six games of the Euroleague season 8.6 points in 14 minutes pg giving a lot of solutions in the offense. He is on the way to erase the bad memories of the winter… And after what he did in the first semifinal against PAOK he proved that he found again his lost confidence.
