Galatasaray‘s brass was in Milan in order to meet Euroleague’s management and talked about the possibility of getting an A licence in the competition this summer. As Eurohoops has reported, this was presented as a possible scenario, however according to Galatasaray‘s basketball coordinator Murat Ozyer, the Turkish club has to wait for next season in order to get it.
Ozyer said about the meetings in Italy: ” Our first meeting with Euroleague management was positive. Euroleague is pleased with Galatasaray’s contribution to the competition. The team deserves an A license, but it doesn’t seem possible for next season, as the licenses are given in a three year cycle which ends next summer. For now we have to focus in TBL and get the championship title in order to get to Euroleague next season, or play in the final and lose to Fenerbahce/ Ulker which already has an A license”.
However Ozyer leaves some possibilities open, even for this season: “We will hold a new meeting with Euroleague in the second half of June, when all European leagues are over. In this meeting we will talk about the details again”.
