Until recently there was the impression that Bilbao Basket is back on track, after the change of ownership back on March and the deal with coach Sito Alonso. However, as it turned out, Bilbao will not be capable of competing next season in Liga Endesa which will decide if there will be 17 teams instead of 18 in next season’s league. (UPDATE: As it was officially confirmed after one day)
The financial issues which led almost to a players’ strike during the season were not resolved and the debts of the club are roughly six million euros. The future of the team is more than uncertain and this can be a sad end for an ambitious club which had played in the Eurocup final and competed in Euroleague.
