Schortsanitis had his knee surgery, he will miss the FIBA pre-Olympic tournaments and until this Tuesday he will still be a Maccabi Tel Aviv’s player, but the Israeli team having the option to terminate his contract

Last Monday morning, Sofoklis Schortsanitis took care of the extremely small piece from his medial meniscus which was detached and… was running around his right knee, making his life difficult.

Dr. Petros Giannakovitis, an orthopedic from Thessaloniki, was responsible for “Sofo”s arthroscopic surgery, which was successful and on Monday he will remove the stitches. Then, Schortsanitis will be able to start his rehabilitation. He will do whatever he has to do in order to strengthen his knee and if everything works out as scheduled, in five weeks from now he will be ready to get back to the court. He will not be able, thought, to play in the FIBA Pre-Olympiac tournament with the national team of Greece.

“Sofo” still has a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv. If the Israel’s team wants to terminate it, they will have to plain him 100.000$ until this Tuesday, when their option to do so will expire. Otherwise, Shortsanitis will be a Maccabi‘s player for 2012-2013 season, a not so probable scenario. As Eurohoops.net reported there is already an offer from Caja Laboral to him and also he may be in the plans of Panathinaikos.
