Aco Petrovic lost the battle with ALS

Serbian coach Aleksandar “Aco” Petrovic passed away today in Belgrade. Being just 55 years old, Petrovic had battle ALS in recent years, however he also had a remarkable career in the top level of European basketball.

He started his career in Radnicki Beograd in 1993. He became head coach of FMP Zeleznik from 1998 to 2003, earning one Yugoslav Cup final appearance. He also coached Hemofarm, Lokomotiv Rostov which he lead to FIBA Europe Cup finals, Unics Kazan, Crvena Zvezda, Zalgiris Kaunas and Azovmash. He last coached in the 2012-13 season in Unics Kazan. He was also an assistant coach to Svetislav Pesic when the Yugoslav National team took Eurobasket gold in 2001 and won the FIBA World championship in 2002. Ιn the same position under Dusan Ivkovic he won the silver medal in Eurobasket 2009.
