Patrick Mills ended Russian’s unbeaten run, with a buzzer beater three-pointer, with which he gave to Australia, a -by all means- great victory (82-80). Few second before (4.1” to the end), Vitaly Fridzon scored two free throws (79-80), with coach Brett Brown drawing the last play for Joe Ingles finding Mills at the top of the key. And this is what actually happened. Keep in mind, Russia was already the first of its group and Australia the fourth -and last to qualify- and that means the “Aussies” will play against USA, in quarters.
Lithuania trailed 50-54 at the end of the third quarter and… they kept the best for last: with a 26-9 in the fourth and two huge 3-pointers by Renaldas Seibutis, they celebrate a victory over Tunisia (76-63), they advanced at the quarters as the third team, of their group and they are going to play against Russia.
Great Britain recorded their first Olympic victory in basketball, since 1948, after they beat China 90-58. For the record, their last victory was over Ireland (46-21), the last time London hosted the Games.
France defeated Nigeria 79-73, with Nicolas Batum scoring 23 points. With his 3-pointer, his team got the lead (65-62) and they never trailed again.
