The Greek basketball doesn’t forget Alphonso Ford! Papagos BC, his first team in Greece, after his season in Spanish Hueska, which helped him to become one of the greatest scorers in European basketball history, honors him in an exhibition game this Sunday (20:30 local time).
Eight years after his death (4/9/2004) by leukemia Papagos BC organizes a match between his teammates in 1996-97 season and selected players who played with him in his other three Greek teams (Sporting, Peristeri and Olympiacos), where he was four times the league’s top scorer.
The gifted Al played only three seasons in Euroleague and was twice (2001, 2002) the leading scorer. Since 2004 the competition’s leading scorer award bears his name in his memory.
