After 27 years Real Madrid won once more the Spanish Supercup and that could be a great omen for the season. With Rudy Fernandez leading the way with 22 points, Real beat Barcelona 95-84 which had won the last three Supercup editions.

The Catalans didn’t have in their roster their captain, sharp shooter Juan Carlos Navarro, and veteran Lithuanian legend Sarunas Jasikevicius. However, the performance of Real Madrid was at least persuasive of its playing quality and lofty goals.

After a balanced first half (44-43) the game was decided in the third quarter, when Madrid got a nine points lead (65-56). Rudy was named the MVP of the game. Australian center Nathan Jawai did score 20 points for Barcelona, but he didn’t have any answer for Real in defense, something that also applies to all his teammates.
