Nobody has seen that coming. German club Bayern Munich announced the firing of coach Dirk Bauermann who was for the last two seasons the head of the team’s project to create a basketball powerhouse. Bauermann was planning ahead, as he said to his Eurohoops.net interview, but in the official press release the reason for the termination of his contract is presented to be differences with the club’s management about the future of the project.
His Greek assistant Yiannis Christopoulos (photo) will be the head coach, until further notice at least. Christopoulos is a long time friend and collaborator of Bauermann, since the days of the German coach on the bench of Apollon Patras in Greece.
There was also a Euroleague transfer on Thursday with Besiktas announcing the signing of Randal Falker. The American forward was a player of new Besiktas’ coach Erman Kunter the past four seasons in French club Cholet.
