Panathinaikos announced officially on Friday the 16th of November the signing of Jason Kapono and a few hours latter his wife had complications in her latest pregnancy. The Greek club is in constant contact with the player, waits to be informed about the new date of his arrival – he was scheduled to travel to Greece on Sunday – and clarified to the American player that his wife will have the best possible medical care in Athens.
Kapono seems to appreciate the behavior of the club, but he is worried due to the condition of his wife and he seems reluctant to come immediately to Greece on his own, or with his whole family. The Greens on the other hand can’t wait forever and even with his contract being signed, the deal could be voided. Kapono should decide what he will do in the next two or three days. If not, then Panathinaikos will not have any other choice than to move on.
The Greek team will start checking the market again (there is also Rasual Batler) and will continue the try out of American guard Marcus Banks, who will know in a few days if he will spend the rest of the season in Greece.
If the deal with Kapono falls out, Panathinaikos will miss the chance to be the only European team that had signed both a winner of the dunk contest (Dominique Wilkins) and a winner of the three point shootout (Jason Kapono) of NBA’s All Star game!
