Fotis Katsikaris came very close to be the new head coach of the Greek team, but it turns out that he is gonna be an opponent of the Greek team in the Eurobasket of Slovenia. The Greek coach will be the successor of David Blatt in the Russian national team (who will face the Greek team in the 1st phase of Eurobasket 2013) as he has agreed to an impressive 4 years contract with the Russians.
What it remains to be arranged is the way his cooperation with Liga Endesa’s Bilbao is going to be continued. As it is known, there is a rule in ACB league that doesn’t allow the coaches of the team to take over a national team and that was presented to be a major obstacle for the Greek federation. But there have been special exemptions to the rule before and it seems that a solution will be found also in this case. During this week the matter will be settled and then the his hiring will become official.
