“Much ado about nothing” describes what happened on Monday. Sofoklis Shortsanitis had a day off and he spend it near his family and specially his new born son in Athens, Greece. He took the night flight for Tel Aviv and returned in Israel, but that does not mean that he will be ready to play for Maccabi T.A. any time soon and this is where the plot thickens.
“Big Sofo” will probably finish the season as a spectator in Maccabi’s last games because he needs to have surgery in his banged knee and he will try to be ready to play for the Greek National Team in the FIBA Pre-Olympic tournament. His possible absence will be a blow for “Team Hellas”. For the second straight summer there is a chance that Shortsanitis will not be in the roster and this time it will be a blow also for him, because he will be a free agent and, as rumor has it, Maccabi isn’t eager to offer him a new contract.
Shortsanitis needs the surgery in order to be in full health again and this is something that can’t wait for long. The procedure will be done in the next month.
