Experienced Greek coach and last season’s Greek league coach of the year Soulis Markopoulos is negotiating a possible deal with Olympiacos. According to Eurohoops sources, Markopoulos and the Reds started talking the last few days, before Sunday’s upset of the team by Nea Kifisia (68-67) for the Greek league.
It’s not a simple situation, but in the end it can produce a deal. Markopoulos has a contract with PAOK and he has build the current team with a lot of hard work during the past few seasons. However the management, led by former player Bane Prelevic, understands that this may be an once in a lifetime chance for Markopoulos, a high level coach, who hasn’t work yet in his long career for a top Euroleague club. That’s why PAOK has been also approached in order to give its blessing for the move. The burning matter at this point is to find a formula in order to keep everyone happy and let Markopoulos coach Olympiacos.
UPDATE: Pressed by fans, PAOK management decided not to let Soulis Markopoulos go to Olympiacos. The coach himself denied to make a comment on the case after Wednesday’s (22/10) Eurocup game of PAOK against Zielona Gora, a 85-66 win.
