This week’s Euroleague meeting in Barcelona was in fact just a preview of what will happened on the 6th of May in Istanbul. FIBA is also preparing its moves but Euroleague on the next meeting will present in writing its formal proposals about the future of the competition and also expects the same from the clubs. The purpose is simple: to keep the league in its current state while growing its popularity and revenues.
Among the ideas that were put on the table in Barcelona, some new formats were also presented and one of those ideas was a 16 clubs league. However there were also new proposals for 24 teams formats and changes in the regular season and Top16. All those proposals will be presented formally on the 6th of May and after the end of the season a vote will be held in order to decide the possible new format of the league.
