Croatia in danger of losing Eurobasket

The war between Euroleague and FIBA continues and the possible casualties may include the upcoming Eurobasket 2015.

FIBA send on Tuesday a letter to the national basketball federation of Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, FYROM and Montenegro reminding them that clubs, players, coaches and referees who are officially recongnized by the international federation can’t take part in de-recognized leagues.

What’s is being asked indirectly from those countries is to abandon the de-recognized Adriatic league or else FIBA can expel their national teams from the upcoming Eurobasket. FIBA can even change the venue of the Eurobasket first round Group C from Zagreb, Croatia and relocate it to an other country.

It remains to be seen how things will end up, considering the fact that there are just three months left for the Eurobasket. Τhis is one more episode in the ongoing power play for the control of the Euroleague, which at this point supports Adriatic league. FIBA wants to “remodel” the current structure of European clubs competitions and uses the de-recognision of Adriatic league as a tool to hurt Euroleague.
