The Hungarian NT is leaving the FIBA bubble in Ljubljana, Slovenian after several COVID-19 positives detected in the team, as Sanja Modric reports.

Hungary has two scheduled games in this fourth round of the EuroBasket Qualifiers, against Austria (November 28) and Slovenia (November 30). The nation currently tops Group F heading to the Ljubljana bubble having enjoyed back-to-back two-point victories in the February qualifiers.

FIBA gave an update concerning the issue, stating the following:

Following the Covid-19 Protocol for FIBA Official National Team and Club Competitions and the advice of its Medical Commission, FIBA has decided to postpone the games of Hungary in the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2022 Qualifiers in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the health and safety of players, coaches and officials being the primary consideration.

The decision was taken after six members of the Hungary delegation, including five players, tested positive to COVID-19 after arrival on-site, despite all delegation members having provided two negative tests prior to their arrival in Slovenia. Among these individuals, four have been placed back in isolation and the test results of two others have been subject to further evaluation.

The games of Austria – Hungary on November 28 and Slovenia – Hungary on November 30 will not take place and will be rescheduled in the February 2021 window.

FIBA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and communicate any further updates regarding its competitions if necessary.
