With a three-pointer by Monya at the end of the game Russia defeated the Czech Republic 86-85 in the tournament that is being held in the Greek city of Xanthi.
Sergey Monya gave Russia their second win in a row after they went head to head with Bosnia (85-52) on the first day of the tournament. The Czechs fought hard and – led by Vesely (22 points, 5 rebounds) and with the worthy help of Satoransky, who came close to a triple double (12 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists) – they were trailing close behind.
The Russians, though, had Vorontsevich (15 points, 7 rebounds) and Khvostov (15 points) on a great night and with the very good Monya (16 points, 4/7 three-point field goals) as their last-minute hero, they got the win.
