The hosts of Group D, Latvia, got a 40-33 half time lead and kept it until the end for the crucial 72-65 win over the Czech Republic. That result created a four way tie on top of the group standings as Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Belgium have a 2-1 record.
Veteran sharp shooter Janus Blooms scored 14 points and was the best among equals for the winners, while the trio of Thomas Satoransky (22 p., 5 r., 9 as.), Jan Vesely (17 p., 11 r.) and Blake Schlib (11 p.) tried to do it all for the Czechs. Still the best they could do was cut the lead of Latvia to six points (66-60).
Still the four tied teams which have two wins have already the qualification advantage, however the final standings for the top four are still very open.
