Estonia is the weak link in Group D, but Ukraine was its victim in the 78-71 win. Gregor Arbet had an amazing game (26 p., 4 r.) and destroyed every hope for a decent showing by Ukraine in Eurobasket 2015.
It’s ironic but the country which was supposed to host the tournament, has not yet a win and lost to team with limited talent, despite a big game by naturalized guard Jerome Randle who scored 22 points. Also Ukraine managed to have a 10 points lead (38-28) over Estonia at half time, but it was not enough. With a partial score 22-6 in the third quarter, the game changed and Estonia got a 50-44 lead.
Ukraine didn’t give up, the game was close until the end, but Estonia proved better and with a 1-2 record can even hope for a spot in the next round, even if the next game they will have to face Lithuania. Ukraine will also have a hard task in order to get its first win against the hosts of the group, Latvia.
