So long Dirk! The great Dirk Nowitzki said goodbye to the German national team on an occasion that he would have been dreaming about since he was a little boy! In front of his own crowd, in Berlin, in a big game.
The setting was beautiful to carry out Nowitzki’s farewell ceremony to the national team of Germany and by the Germans towards the greatest player in their history and one of the greatest in Europe.
However, the nationalmannschaft was defeated by Spain in the final game of the group stage and was knocked out of the EuroBasket. Germany will not be travelling to Lille for the final stage of the tournament and so Dirk walked off the court with his head down.
But not for long! A few seconds after the end of the game he realised how historic the moment was, he raised his head, he tried hard to hold back his tears and put up his arms to say goodbye to the fans who were cheering him.
Maybe it was better that way… His farewell couldn’t have been more magnificent if Germany were disqualified in a knockout game in the group of 16 or 8 in Lille, far from home, could it?
Auf Wiedersehen Dirk!
