Thanks to his amazing game against France, Pau Gasol made some historical records a little before winning his sixth medal with Spain in a Eurobasket.
*Pau Gasol is the first Spanish NT player to score 40+ points in a game since Jordi Villacampa scored 48 vs Venezuela on August 15th 1990
*Last time a player scored 40+ points in a Eurobasket semifinal was in 1989, when Nikos Galis scored 45 in Greece’s game against Soviet Union.
*Pau Gasol is the fourth player ever with 40+ points in a medal game after Nikos Galis (1987 and 89), Sasha Djordjevic (1995) and Dirk Nowitzki (2001).
*Pau Gasol is the first player who made 40+ points in a EC/WC/Olympics game since Nowitzki’s 47 points on 24th August 2006 against Angola! It took 626 games to break that mark!
*Pau Gasol is the second player to score 40+ points vs France in 395 EC/WC/Olympics games: Georgi Mladenov (Bulgaria) had a losing 40 points on 13th June ’85!
*Pau Gasol is the first player to win a EC game scoring 40+ points since Nenad Markovic (Bosnia) had 44 vs Latvia (96-94) on June 30th 1997.
*Finally, The Bulls’ center has 5 medals in Eurobasket (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and with the one that he will get on Sunday he will find himself in second place behind Belov and Cosic (7).
