Pau Gasol turned out to be the ultimate protagonist, the king of the EuroBasket. He led Spain to the final with his majestic performances and he conquered the title, yet another.
The voting was one of the easiest… ever, the Spanish superstar got the MVP award and, holding it in his hands, he said: “We’re living historical moments. We won yet another title and it was one of the toughest. We’ve been through many joys and successes in the past decade and this is the third EuroBasket in the last 4 tournaments. It’s like a dream, it’s one of the best feelings that you can have in sports. What more can you ask for?”
Gasol believes that the difference in experience played a role in the outcome of the final and admitted that their path had many difficulties: “I don’t agree that the final was easy. Lithuania beat Serbia in the semifinal and deservedly reached this point. We simply managed to impose our game early on, we had confidence and, beyond that, the difference in experience played a role. It always does in finals and big games.”
