The request of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for financial aid was recently approved by the government, as reported by the AA.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina senior national team was in danger of missing the 2022 EuroBasket due to the lack of funds, as stressed by KSBIH in official announcements released over the last few weeks. However, the training camp, including a recent trip to Estonia, was underway.
The national team made the trip to Tartu last week. Upon splitting the two-game friendly series opposite the senior national team of the country, the training camp settled back in Sarajevo looking to continue preparations for the approaching official games.
Returning to EuroBasket after missing the 2017 edition and slated to play in Cologne’s Group B, the first-round schedule features Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, France, and Lithuania stretching from 1 to 7 September. It will surely be an uphill battle against strong national teams to secure a ticket to the next round and Berlin via the top four spots of the six-team group.
Moving into Group K of the 2023 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers with a 3-3 W-L tally, the Dragons will visit Montenegro on 24 August and host France on 27 August looking to strengthen the bid for a berth in next summer’s World Cup. Potentially reaching the final stage of the World Cup and competing in the tournament to be held in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia between 25 August and 10 September 2023, would be a new high for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
