The Slovenian national team’s roster for the 2022 EuroBasket was unveiled, just before the squad’s departure for Cologne, Germany where the Group B games will be hosted.
It’s a list of players that includes Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic and veteran star Goran Dragic as headliners. The latter came out of national team retirement earlier in summer for one last dance with Slovenia and to defend the gold medal title his country won in the EuroBasket 2017.
They are joined by naturalized American-born big man Mike Tobey in his second major tournament with Slovenia after last year’s Olympic Games, guard Klemen Prepelic, and Zoran Dragic, Goran’s younger brother.
The full roster is as follows: Goran Dragic, Ziga Samar, Luka Rupnik, Aleksej Nikolic, Klemen Prepelic, Edo Muric, Mike Tobey, Jaka Blazic, Ziga Dimec, Zoran Dragic, Vlatko Cancar, Luka Doncic.
Slovenia will kick off its Group Stage games against Lithuania on Thursday (1/9). They will next face Hungary (3/9), Bosnia and Herzegovina (4/9), Germany (6/9), and France (7/9). The top four teams from the Group will advance to the next knockout stage in Berlin.
After becoming the first European national team to advance to the 2023 World Cup, Finland also announced the 12 players of its EuroBasket roster with a fun retro-style video.
Finland will march to the EuroBasket with the following players: Miro Little, Shawn Huff, Sasu Salin, Petteri Koponen, Henri Kantonen, Mikael Jantunen, Elias Valtonen, Alexander Madsen, Edon Maxhuni, Lauri Markkanen, Ilari Seppala, Topias Palmi.
The “Sujijengi” will participate in Group D, together with Serbia, Poland, Israel, the Netherlands, and the host Czech Republic.
