Luka Doncic had 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in 19 minutes of action and didn’t have to do anything else. Slovenia got the 103-88 win over Hungary and now it’s tied with Germany at 2-0 on the top of the “Group of Death”, followed by France (1-1) and Bosnia (1-1), while Lithuania and Hungary dropped to 0-2.

The game practically ended after the first quarter, with Slovenia leading 29-16. The halftime score was 54-33 and there was no coming back for Hungary.

“The thing that I like the most about Doncic is that no matter if he plays against Hungary, or a final, he has the same approach and wants to provide a show”, said coach Aleksander Sekulic.

With Doncic on the bench, Slovenia got an equal opportunities offense as Klemen Prepelic (14 p.), Jaka Blazic (11 p.) Ziga Dimec (11 p.), Edo Muric (11 p.), and Vlatko Cancar (11 p.) did their duty. Goran Dragic played just six minutes and scored five points.

“Our approach was great from the start, we took the game seriously and that’s why we had the chance to rest some players”, said Jaka Blazic. “We have to forget this game because tomorrow we play against a very hard opponent”.

“We didn’t want to underestimate anyone and the reaction of my players was great but now we have back-to-back games in less than 20 hours”, added Sekulic.

Zoltan Perl with 18 points was the top scorer of Hungary which played without using Adam Hanga due to hamstring injury. As coach Stojan Ivkovic said after the game: “We played against a very strong opponent, if they had their NBA stars, maybe we could be on their level”.
