Spain advanced to the quarter-finals of EuroBasket 2022 with a thrilling 102-94 victory over Lithuania in overtime. Usman Garuba played a consistent role, especially on defense, for Sergio Scariolo’s team against veterans like Domantas Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas.
The Houston Rockets young talent spoke to the media after the game, remarking that they never give up: “This is what our veterans have told us. It is what the Spanish sport is in itself: fight, energy, claw, and intensity. It is what differentiates us from other countries, I am very proud of everybody”.
Despite being considered a weaker group than past versions of the Spanish national teams, the former Real Madrid player always believed in his squad: “I remember the people who doubted us, who said that we were not going to reach the quarter-finals. Now they will jump on the bandwagon, obviously. But anyway, we continue to work for us”.
