Mateusz Ponitka becomes the fourth player to post a triple-double in EuroBasket history

Poland swingman Mateusz Ponitka reached a special achievement during the EuroBasket win of his national team against Slovenia by posting 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists to become the fourth player to register a triple-double in the history of the competition. He combined

At the beginning of the fourth period, Ponitka dished out an assist to make his dimes 10. He already had 16 points plus 10 rebounds and thus posted a very special triple-double while playing just 27 minutes up until that moment.

Prior to Ponitka, only three players are known to have registered a EuroBasket triple-double. Croatian center Stojan Vrankovic in 1993, Hall of Famer and Vrankovic’s fellow Croat Toni Kukoc in 1995, plus Romanian guard Andrei Mandache in 2017.

“I still don’t think wise, I still don’t feel it. Tomorrow I can ask questions about my triple-double because now I’m still processing the game and trying to find out the reason why we gave up a 20 points lead. But of course, I’m really happy. It’s the first one in my life, I didn’t expect to do it in EuroBasket. But if you have occasions, you have to take them. It’s a great feeling, and tomorrow I will feel better”, Ponitka said about his performance in the press conference after the 87-90 win against Slovenia.
