Poland guard AJ Slaughter was holding his baby son in his arms when he agreed with Eurohoops that the 2022 EuroBasket is, without a doubt, just nuts. And his team’s outstanding quarterfinals victory over 2017 champion Slovenia just added to the whole insanity of the tournament.
“This EuroBasket’s been crazy,” Slaughter said. He had just helped the Polish side prevail over Luka Doncic, Goran Dragic and co. with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. “Amazing win tonight. This is something that we’ll remember for our lifetime. Not many people thought we’ll beat Slovenia. We made history.”
Slaughter trusts his team’s capabilities enough to now aim for a potential new upset: Defeating France in the semifinal for Poland to win its first medal since 1967: “France is a hell of a team,” the naturalized player mentioned. “We are familiar with those guys. I played for Vincent Collet and I’ve played with some of the players of that team. We’re going to come out and play with the same Polish pride we played tonight and maybe we’ll shock the world again.”
