As FIBA Europe announced today the organisers of FIBA EuroBasket 2017 will be decided this Saturday, 12 December, at a ceremony in Munich, Germany.
To be exact “the national federations of Finland, Israel, Poland, Romania and Turkey have applied to organise the 2017 edition of the event, following a very successful EuroBasket 2015 which was organised for the first time ever in four countries (Croatia, France, Germany and Latvia).
The FIBA Europe Board will vote to decide the hosts during its Saturday session in the German city. As was the case with EuroBasket 2015, there are three hosting options available: organise the whole event, one Group Phase group or a Group Phase group and the Final Phase. The event begins at 10:00 am (CET) with the presentations of the bidding nations, followed by the voting session. The announcement on the winning bids is expected at 12:15 pm”.
With the four countries experiement being more than succesful in 2015, a similar format seems to be the wish of FIBA Europe. However in any case and any possible format, Turkey is the big favorite to host the final phase, or even the who tournament.
