A security issue at Gatwick Airport in London is affecting the departure of the Greek National Team from the UK capital. After the loss to Great Britain, the first in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers, the Greek delegation remained at the airport for quite some time while already there to depart.
As the luggage check-in process was finishing, security officials ordered the evacuation of the airport, which was carried out in an orderly and calm manner. Around 12:00 CET, the team’s delegation was outside the airport, waiting for further instructions.
After being outside, the delegation was taken to the airport’s underground areas. The airport management shared information through its account on “X”:
“A large part of the South Terminal has been evacuated as a precaution while we continue to investigate a security incident.
Passengers will not be able to enter the South Terminal while this is ongoing.
Safety and security of our passengers and staff remains our top priority. We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
