The French Basketball Federation issued a statement saying that several national team players were subjects of racist insults during the 2025 EuroBasket Qualifiers game against Croatia in Zadar.
The Federation expressed its full support to the players who were “shocked” by the insults. The organizaion is sending a letter to FIBA to condemn these acts.
According to a report by L’Equipe, some Croatian fans aimed monkey chants at France forward Yoan Makoundou who complained about them to the referees.

“I heard the insults, not the monkey chants,” commented France guard Theo Maledon. The chant “F-k you Makoundou was also heard in the arena. “In these moments we increase our communication with each other. We’ll quickly forget this kind of behavior with the qualification.”
France took a 83 – 80 win to qualify to the EuroBasket while eliminating Croatia in the process.
