French national team general manager Boris Diaw commented on Victor Wembanyama in light of the San Antonio Spurs superstar being diagnosed with a blood clot in his right shoulder.
“I don’t know anything yet—we haven’t talked—but the doctors will make the right decision,” Diaw said to Basketball Sphere.
Wembanyama will definitely miss the rest of 2024-25. While the Spurs expect that he will recover to return next season, it’s unknown whether he’ll be able to participate in the 2025 EuroBasket. The French big man has mentioned that he wants to play in the tournament if he’s healthy.

In the 2024 Olympics, Wembanyama had 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 blocks as France won the silver medal.
Diaw, a former NBA champion with the San Antonio Spurs as player in 2014, also addressed how the team is performing this season and Gregg Popovich’s health.
“Coach Popovich is slowly recovering,” Diaw said. “I’ve been watching the Spurs, and they’re better than last year, which is exactly what you want to see in a rebuilding phase.”
