Turkey marches to the EuroBasket 2017 with great ambition to at least step on the podium, also because the tournament will be held in Istanbul. But it’s currently uncertain if their efforts will be boosted by the presence of Ersan Ilyasova.
As American journalist KL Chouinard reported, the Turkish power forward said that he’s “unsure” of joining his country’s national team in the Eurobasket considering his status as a free agent and the pursue of his next contract.
On November, the 29-year-old player stated his excitement for for Turkey’s status as hosts of the tournament, in an interview for FIBA.com.
Ilyasova was also absent from the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila. He last played for the Turkish national team in EuroBasket 2015 averaging 15.2 points & 4.5 rebounds per game.
Ersan Ilyasova said that he was unsure about playing for national team of Turkey, especially with his pending free agency.
