Quietly FIBA Europe accepted the new status quo of global basketball and the two years Eurobasket cycle ends at 2017. As we have reported one month ago, the new general statutes of FIBA, approved in Istanbul, are practically giving every decision making power to the world federation.

That was proven today, when FIBA Europe reposted in its site the announcement of FIBA for the “launch of the international tender process to identify the host nation for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup”. In theory 2019 was a Eurobasket year and despite the fact that no official announcements are made at this point, it seems that FIBA Europe will organize Eurobasket in a four year cycle after the 2017 tournament.
