The federation announced today that Asik is no longer a candidate to make the team due to the bacterial infection that he suffered four months ago.
Asik didn’t travel with the rest of the team last Sunday to Bormio, Italy, for the start of the training camp and the news is not a surprise. Asik has played just 14 total minutes in three appearances since the start of 2017.
He still has two years and $21.9 million, as well as a nonguaranteed third year, left on the five-year deal he signed with the Pelicans in the 2015 offseason.
