First EuroBasket, then some rest for the “wicked”

As the next EuroBasket is set to take place in 2021 and the World Cup is two summers away, summer of 2018 will be a perfect chance for players to actually take some time of the competitive part of the sport!

Despite the FIBA “windows” issue in the middle of the upcoming EuroLeague season, players can rest after the season is over.

This change has been long awaited by the players, who seem more than eager to the idea.

“It’s very important for players not only to rest, but to work on their bodies”, says Tornike Shengelia of Georgia. “You can work on that during summer, so I like the idea of having a summer off”.

Daniel Hackett of Italy agrees with the Baskonia star: “It’s good not to play every summer. If we had two summers off, it’d be even better. Take Datome for example; he plays for 17 summers straight. It’s very important to work on our bodies and take some physical and mental rest. I like to practice either way, but working alone is different.”

Stefan Jovic of Serbia is also positive about this change: “There’s no doubt that this is the right decision. Everyone needs time to rest. FIBA is on the right track to help the players”.
