Turkey edged Great Britain 84-70 and got its first and important win, despite being challenged in the final period.
The star: Melih Mahmutoglu was the leading scorer for the winners and finished the game with 24 points.
Turning point: The hosts of Group D had established a double-digit lead right from the second period, leading 49-36 at halftime. Even though GB cut the deficit to 10 points at 29′, the Turkish side was able to keep its advantage until the end, even though the former attempted a comeback at 32′ (59-66).
Key players: Semih Erden followed Mahmutoglu’s lead and scored 19 points. For the British side, Andrew Lawrence counted 15 points.
