Finland and Markkanen to the next round over Greek ruins

The “pack of wolves” devoured their opponents, getting an easy 89-77 win. And among cheers from their crowd, they became the third team from Group A that got the ticket to Istanbul. They can even finish second in the final group standings if Slovenia beats France.

For Greece, things were simple regardless the outcome. The winner of the game between them and Poland will get the fourth ticket of the group.

The star: Everyone is fixed at Lauri Markkanen, but this time Petteri Koponen led the charge with 24 points, a personal best with the national team. On the other hand, Markkanen also did his job with 17 points and 5 rebounds.

No reaction: Finland started the game leading by nine points at the end of the first quarter (23-14) and Greece never got into the game, never played defense and things were more than easy for the hosts. They even rested injured Jamar Wilson and as it turned that was the right decision. He was not needed in this game.

Kostas Sloukas scored 12 points and dished four assists, Τhanasis Antetokounmpo had a personal best with 17 points but that’s just a footnote. The question for Greece is how they can turn the choice against Poland, after playing that bad for the third straight game,
