Following the defeat of France by Germany in the EuroBasket Round of 16 and an early tournament elimination, Boris Diaw said that he hasn’t put any thought into his future with “Les Bleus”.
“Nothing yet. I was just focusing on this EuroBasket. I don’t know. I think there will be some more qualification games for us for the World Cup. I’ll make a decision at that time. If I feel that I can play, then I’ll play. If I feel that I’m not able to help the team anymore then I’ll stop”, he said during the post-game press conference.
Diaw is currently a free agent and if he doesn’t find a contract in the NBA he will be eligible to join the French national team’s efforts in the World Cup qualifiers.
Regarding the loss to Germany, Diaw said: “Obviously it was a tough a game. Our main concern was getting back on track after the last two Group games when we were not that good. I think we did that. I think we started pretty well. We started pretty aggressively on defense and we shared the ball on offense. Overall our game was not terrible. We had better shooting percentage, more assists, and more rebounds. The only bad thing is that we had more turnovers than they did. In the second half, we had many turnovers and we weren’t able to make them turn the ball as much.”
“Of course I’m very disappointed that we’re not going to the next round of the EuroBasket. We fell a little short as far as intensity in the second half. I have to give lots of credit to Germany that played really good. They made some good, tough shots. They deserved to beat us tonight.”
