Latvia prevailed over Montenegro with 100-68 and will face strong Slovenia in the quarterfinals, in a much-awaited battle!
The stars: Janis Timma and Kristaps Porzingis owned the show today, scoring 21 and 19 points each.
Turning point: Latvia was completely dominant in the opening period, with three-pointer efficiency which paced them with 27-15. Montenegro’s Dubljevic and Vucevic made a small run in the second period, yet Porzingis allowed no space to breathe, helping his team stay up with 53-37 at halftime.
Foul trouble came in early for Montenegro in the third period, which didn’t allow the team to trim the deficit somehow, as Latvia sped up with 61-43 at 23′. By the end of the quarter, Latvia’s domination was clear (30-point advantage).
Things didn’t change much in the finale of the game, as Bagatskis’ team was incredible and creative in both ends of the court.
Key players: Janis Strelnieks had a full performance with 12 points and 7 assists,
Bojan Dubljevic scored 21 points for the Montenegrin side, while Nikola Vucevic finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
