Partizan Belgrade coach Andrea Trinchieri finds every discussion around sports to be insignificant at the moment compared to the overall crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I try not to complain, I do my best to not feel disappointed. I decided I didn’t want to feel that way. We held first place in both competitions, but at this point health is paramount. Talking about sports is a useless exercise right now. It’s a marginal topic right now,” Trinchieri said in an interview with La Provincia di Como.
Partizan began individual practices Monday except for its foreign players (minus RaShawn Thomas who chose to stay in Belgrade during the hiatus) and Trinchieri, who remains in Italy.
It was the first training session of Partizan since the shutting down of all competitions in light of the coronavirus outbreak. When the season was suspended, the Serbian team was at the top place in ABA League and would begin the EuroCup playoffs with homecourt advantage.
“We will understand everything in the mid of the month,” Trinchieri said on the season resumption. “The ABA should align with EuroCup and EuroLeague but I don’t think we can recover. And even if it happened, perhaps in one place, it would be a strange and absolutely new thing. It would be the same for all teams.”
Partizan president Ostoja Mihailovic has been making an effort to have a EuroCup Final Eight hosted in Belgrade. The Serbian capital is also a candidate to host a potential EuroLeague Final Eight.
