Lietkabelis announced that the club has applied to compete in the EuroCup for the 2020-2021 season. The application was announced less than 24 hours after fellow Lithuanian side Rytas Vilnius officially joined FIBA’s Basketball Champions League after participating in the 2019-2020 EuroCup.
“We had the opportunity to participate in the tournament because Rytas took a different path,” Lietkbelis director Martynas Purlys said per the club’s website. “We believe that by playing in EuroCup we will have a chance to form a stronger lineup and achieve our goals.” Lietkabelis finished the canceled 2019-2020 Lithuanian League at the third place in the standings.
Lietkabelis previously played in EuroCup in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons. In the last two years, the club was playing in the Basketball Champions League.
