Hapoel Jerusalem CEO Guy Harel made a sarcastic remark about EuroCup following the comments made by EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu on the clubs leaving the ECA competitions to join FIBA’s Basketball Champions League.

While talking to the Israeli Sport 5 network, Bertomeu had said that: “We have cases in Jerusalem, cases in Bamberg. The outcome of this decision wasn’t exactly a success for the club. Together with this decision, the clubs are becoming smaller.” Harel’s response was that “I guess that the EuroCup is in a tough situation since they invited a small club like us ten days ago,” per Walla.

EuroLeague Basketball carries an annual procedure of sending pre-registration documents to a long list of clubs. The competitions department contacts the club to ask if they are interested in participating in EuroCup.

Hapoel Jerusalem last played in EuroCup in 2017-2018. In the last two seasons, the Israeli powerhouse has participated in the Basketball Champions League.
