Partizan president: We’re still making great efforts to keep Trinchieri

Partizan Belgrade president Ostoja Mijailovic hinted on the possibility of coach Andrea Trinchieri leaving the team while the club is trying its best to keep him on board.

“We have clearly defined the strategy and budget for the players. We are still making great efforts to keep Andrea Trinchieri in the position of head coach. Unfortunately, Partizan isn’t so financially generous in comparison to other clubs that have an unlimited budget, and even during the world pandemic and economic crisis, they have the funds to pay buyouts when bringing players,” Mijailovic said to Mozzart Sport.

Trinchieri has been the head coach of Partizan since 2018. Before the 2019-2020 shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, he led the team to the first place in the ABA League regular season and the best record in EuroCup ahead of the quarterfinals.

“I believe this will be resolved quickly because we must soon work on bringing reinforcements and the precondition for that is to first resolve the issue of our cooperation with the head coach. We made a strong offer – given the current market conditions I can say an excellent offer – and now it’s on the coach to answer,” Mijailovic said.

Mijailovic talked about guard Corey Walden leaving the team since another club paid the buyout to acquire him. The American player is reported to be joining Partizan archrival Crvena Zvezda.

“Walden’s departure was expected, the club came out with an offer that didn’t match his expectations, the other club gave twice as much money, with paid buyout and a new contract, and the player left.”
