Former All-EuroCup guard/forward Sammy Mejia announced that he’s retiring from basketball at 37 years of age via a message on his social media.
“After a lot of thought and emotional highs and lows, I’ve decided to officially retire from the game of basketball,” Mejia wrote. “As I close the door on this part of my life, there is so much that I will be taking with me. All the ups and downs. All the friendships. All the people who helped me get here… Thank you Basketball. For allowing this kid’s dreams to come true.”

Throughout his career, Mejia played for such teams as CSKA Moscow, Banvit, Cholet, and lately with Tofas Bursa. He won the 2012 VTB League with CSKA and the 2010 French Leaguer with Cholet.
In 2015, Mejia was named to the All-EuroCup first team as a player of Banvit.
