Unics Kazan coach Dimitris Priftis said that while he would be honored to possibly return to Panathinaikos Athens someday, such a thing won’t happen in the near future. Priftis is one of the coaches that the Greens have considered as replacement for George Vovoras.
“I would say that Panathinaikos is a high reputation team in Europe and the most popular team in my country,” Priftis said in the presser after the 65-64 win of Unics over Nizhny Novgorod for the VTB League. “It would be honor for me, somehow and someday, to be member of this team and this club. But let’s stay on the facts today and the fact is that I’m here and I continue my job here.”
Priftis had briefly served on Panathinaikos as an assistant under Fragkiskos Alvertis (the former longtime captain of the team and current co-general manager with club legend Dimitris Diamantidis) in 2014, winning the Greek championship title.
Unics is in Group H of the EuroCup Top 16 that begins on January 13. The Russian team is currently 5-4 in VTB.
