Lokomotiv Kuban terminated Jordan Crawford’s contract due to the player “repeatedly violating the club’s internal regulations,” the team announced. Crawford was Lokomotiv’s leading scorer in EuroCup with 16.6 points per game.
“Players don’t have only rights, such as receiving wages, but also responsibilities,” Lokomotiv Kuban vice president Ginas Rutkauskas said in a statement that was published on Lokomotiv’s website. “If a player repeatedly violated the regulations adopted by the club and also leaves the team’s location without permission in waiting of preparations for the most important matches of the season, then, unfortunately, we have only one thing to do – to part ways with him. The team should have those who are charged for the fight, focused on the result – only disciplined players, real professionals, those who don’t put their personal goals above the team goals.”
Crawford’s departure from Lokomotiv arrives with the team being 1-3 in Group E of the EuroCup Top 16 and in danger of elimination. The Russian side is next facing Boulogne Metropolitans (3/3) and Dolomiti Energia Trento (10/3), needing to win both games to have chances to advance to the playoffs.
