Partizan president says transfer ban was a mistake

Partizan Belgrade president Ostoja Mijailovic described the decision of FIBA’s BAT (Basketball Arbitral Tribunal) to impose a transfer ban on the club as a “mistake” that was a result of a “misunderstanding”.

“We believe that BAT made this decision by mistake, which is why we contacted them via letter,” Mijailovic said to Mozzart Sport.

BAT sanctioned Partizan due to owed payments to former coach Dusko Vujosevic. According to Mijailovic, the current administration inherited a debt of overall 3,400,000 (including interest) euros to coaches and players in 2017 and has made significant progress towards eliminating it.

“So far, 2,700,000 euros has been paid,” Mijailovic stated. “The debt to Dusko Vujosevic was 400,000 euros. Today, it’s paid in instalments and by reprogramming the sum of about 80,000 euros. There have been more paid money than what was included in the agreement that was signed with BAT and our former coach, and I think it’s a misunderstanding.”
